Keeping my newt happy?
I have a fire belly newt. I know that they are cold water species, but my room is 78 degrees, instead of 66. Is there any way to make it colder?
I cannot afford chillers
Either put some Ice in it or turn the AC on. I have kept 4 fire-belly newts when I lived in the Philippines and they thrived at a temp of 80-87 degrees and they even caught all the guppies during feeding time. The only reason they live in cold water is because it slows down their metabolism (there is little food in the cold water streams in their natural habitat). If you feed them more often, then they can survive and even thrive in warmer waters.
